Andoni Arratibel is selling a romantic guitar by the Spanish luthier Ángel Benito, an exact replica of the iconic model by the French maker Coffe-Goguette.
The story of the original instrument links a chance discovery in Turkey, a masterly restoration and its permanent exhibition in a well-known museum in Tokyo. Following that restoration, commissioned by Japanese collectors, Ángel Benito built a limited series of this model, respecting every detail, scale and specification of the period. This guitar is one of that series.
The instrument stands out for its extraordinary projection and a warm, sweet tone full of harmonics, ideal for historically informed performance. It is built entirely by hand from selected tonewoods, and it is signed and sealed by the luthier himself.
As the photographs show, the guitar has a spruce soundboard, a two-piece flamed maple back under a high-gloss finish, an ebony fingerboard and a moustache-style pin bridge, with a rosette inlaid with mother-of-pearl diamonds and dots. The luthier’s label is visible through the soundhole. It is pictured in its hard case.
It will suit guitarists who specialise in nineteenth-century repertoire, chamber musicians and collectors of historical instruments. A trial in person can be arranged for serious enquiries.
