Aquila HV Varnished Beef Gut

Gut has been the string material of early music for centuries. Aquila’s HV series is varnished beef gut, combining traditional gut making with modern treatments that improve its stability and durability.

Unlike Aquila’s HL (oiled, unvarnished, for plucked instruments only) and HU (whole lamb gut, for bowed instruments only), HV is suitable for both plucked and bowed instruments. It is also one of the two series used in our Aquila HV gut sets for baroque violin, viola, cello, bass and viola da gamba.

All HV strings are 120 cm long, in gauges from 0.42 to 1.60 mm.
