Bowed Strings

Strings by Aquila Corde for the baroque violin family (violin, viola, cello and bass) and the viola da gamba (pardessus, treble and tenor), in three families:

• HU – whole unsplit lamb gut: the historical Italian method, which Aquila revived in 2018. Aquila makes it for bowed instruments only.
• HV – varnished beef gut: stable and durable, suitable for plucked and bowed instruments.
• F-Red (FG) synthetic: the only Aquila synthetic series designed for bowed instruments, for students and for very humid or hot climates.

For each instrument we sell the single strings to build your set: HU or HV gut for the upper strings and Aquila’s Close Wound “F” (gut core with pure silver wire) for the lower strings, in the length that suits the instrument.
