Aquila makes its hurdy-gurdy strings, plain and wound, from Sugar, a bio-plastic derived from sugar cane. Aquila describes a brilliant, prompt sound close to gut, long sustain and good grip under the wheel; it absorbs far less moisture than nylon and has the same density as gut, so gauges are the same.
