About us

Cuerdas Pulsadas, a project by David Morales de Frías

After listening for countless hours to every early-music record that came my way, I realised that this would never be enough to understand and feed the curiosity that plucked strings arouse in me.

With no other aim than to play for myself, in 2009 I bought a seven-course Renaissance lute and found that everything I had imagined while listening was nothing compared to holding it and playing it.

Since then I have devoted as much time as I can to playing, as an amateur, stealing time from my other family and work commitments.

At the beginning of 2010 we started talking at home about launching this project, and today Cuerdas Pulsadas is a reality.

Thank you to everyone who has accompanied and helped us along the way.

Enthusiasm: an ailment of youth, curable with small doses of regret and external applications of experience.

What began as a late-night idea is what you see today: Cuerdas Pulsadas. It took months of hard work along a difficult and risky path, but with the determination and enthusiasm of someone who wants to make something happen.

On 22 November 2010, Saint Cecilia’s Day, Cuerdas Pulsadas was born. The date could not have been more fitting, because this adventure has had all the features of a pregnancy, and we truly feel it as the virtual birth of a child, such is the love and work we have put, and will keep putting, into this project.

Enough: everything in the world, as long as you like it.

The aim of Cuerdas Pulsadas is to offer an alternative in the always scarce world of plucked strings.

As a shop, we will always try to offer you the best service, the best prices and every facility to replace your strings, with a close and personal treatment, and doing our best to meet all your requests.

But beyond a business, we want to make a difference in the world of plucked strings. We want to be a driving force for your needs and, little by little, to build a common space for everyone who, in one way or another, is connected with plucked strings.

It is not an easy task, because plucked-string players are not a particularly close-knit community. But we will do everything we can to always be much more than a place to buy strings.

Stay tuned for all the new things we will add over time.

Patience: a minor form of despair, disguised as a virtue.

And so that you can see how a concept grows from the seed of an idea, here is the first logo I drew in a notebook (ahem) a few months before the launch, the digital sketch based on a real photo of my Renaissance lute, and the final Cuerdas Pulsadas logo.
