Alejandro Baleta is selling a magnificent bandora by Robert Hadaway, built in Gayton, Norfolk. The bandora (or pandora) is an English Renaissance wire-strung bass instrument of the cittern family, a cornerstone of the Elizabethan “broken consort”.

On the inner side of the back it bears the inscription “Mr. Walton’s Bandora, December 1973”.

The instrument is beautifully made and decorated, with a sectioned back of several woods with inlay, an old spruce soundboard, a fan-shaped fingerboard, and a pegbox carved with a human head and inlaid on its reverse.
